Review on Winsor & Newton Drawing Ink, 14ml, Gold by Jennifer Roberts

Beautiful ink on art materials

Very nice ink. I don't have much experience with other inks so I can't exactly compare it, but it definitely meets all my ink needs. You just have to remember to shake it before use and as others have said it cleans very well. I found it very difficult to remove the cap after the ink sealed it and ended up using rubber gloves for a few minutes. This is the only downside. I bought it with the intention of using it for multimedia projects. I also thought that maybe I just need that and not the gold paint, but I don't think it's a good substitute because it's very runny. (It's ink, after all.) They can still be used for some things, but you have to be careful. I tried using this to paint a polymer clay sculpture and then glazing it, but the glazing caused the ink to come off even when the ink dried. I ended up just dripping on the icing and letting it dry without actually painting over it with a brush. It didn't work that way. But I probably won't try again. White can be used instead of white paint in certain circumstances as it is a bit more opaque, but again you need to experiment a bit. After that, it is more difficult to draw with a marker or pen, because after drying it becomes harder and shinier. (The paint is matte.) But after drying, it is much smoother than paint. So it's great if you don't paint on it afterwards. However, if I need other ink colors (now I only have white, gold and silver) I will buy this brand.

Pros
  • Great design
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
