I bought a box of these to align the pillars of the steel building we are building. I had 10 columns with 4 anchor bolts each. Concrete is never perfectly level between bolts, and supports probably aren't perfect either. Using these shims, we installed each post and continued to swap shims until the posts were perpendicular in both directions. I also bought some large 1/2" washers for big adjustments. Thanks to the slot, we didn't have to remove each post to make adjustments. We simply loosened the nuts on the anchor bolts and shook the column off the gasket, which we had to replace. My concrete was close enough but I still used most of some size shims. There are smaller spacers left over which I could combine to make a few more gaps if needed. They are stainless steel so I don't have to worry about them rusting in 5-10 years.Depending on the stresses of your building, this may not be the right way to achieve our goal.Consult a qualified engineer for your specific application.
