I thought it was that flimsy flimsy plastic you get when you bring food home from the deli. They're actually amazingly durable and I've had no trouble microwaving, washing and reusing them. The lids are also very tight. I have not used them in the dishwasher or freezer but I think they are fine for short term use. I use them a lot more than I thought I would. UPDATE: I have re-ordered another batch of these containers as the first set was so good. Unfortunately, some plastic containers have rips, tears, or pieces that have been ripped out of the "ring" around the top of the container that holds the lids, preventing them from sealing the lid tightly in place (and some are You might not be able to close the lid at all) ) I hope I just got unlucky and got a bad batch because if the quality is like this I won't be ordering again.
