To date I have owned this monitor for several months. There are a few things I should point out before reading the review. This is the secondary monitor I use with Portrait for chat, web, music and sometimes video alongside gaming. I have been the proud owner of high quality Dell monitors for 2 years. I have two Dell U2413 monitors to use with my workstation and they are great with a few flaws. I have a gaming rig that I used with a 32" 1080p TV and a 21.5" Viewsonic monitor set in the countryside. I refused to go back to TN or "Junior" panels. This time I was tempted by monitors from Korea, but I couldn't bring myself to betray Dell. So now I'm the proud owner of the U2713HM, and next to it is this one. What worries me is that the small portrait monitor market is sad. I could get a 4:3 P1913S at 1280x1024, or this 16:10 at 1440x900, or one from other manufacturers. The resolution is too low to match the pixel density and too low to view webpages without scaling. TN is also the only option. With 4k on 24", 28" and 32" monitors the options only get worse. Now for the meat and potatoes of my review! It also has PHYSICAL KEYS for the OSD. This is better than the U2413 and newer monitors, which have capacitive buttons. The outer case is made of hard plastic. The only downside here is that the stand only swivels in one direction on the right side, but on the left side the viewing angles are very poor.-color-The viewing angles of this monitor are good in landscape but terrible in portrait doesn't mean the color is great to begin with, I'm still trying to calibrate it to my liking to even compare it to the factory calibration that Dell has on their monitors U series .-Picture quality-So this is where it gets questionable.People have different standards Personally I have high standards after owning 3 other monitors worth over $500.Tue however, it is a $100 monitor. The picture quality is not very good. Motion blur is bad, color change is bad due to TN technology. Although there is value. It's a monitor and it displays an image and for $100 it's better than $80 monitors and it's a $20-$40 difference. - OSD and Features - It has many more features than many budget monitors. Color balance (RGB and YPbPr) with many different color modes, brightness and contrast and many OSD settings. Working in tandem with the OS calibration tools, this is enough to give you the ability to make the monitor look the way you want it to. - Price - I got this monitor for $82 which I think was a pricing mistake. I'm happy with the monitor at this price point, but I wouldn't be happy with the full retail price of $150. A good price would be around $100. For $120, you can pay a little more for something better from ASUS or any other brand. If you don't care if your monitor is in portrait mode, the possibilities are endless. I would recommend everything else. My final words on this monitor: if you want something SMALL that works in portrait mode, go for it. If you can get bigger, you'll get bigger, better, and more valuable. If you can do without the swivel function, you will get significantly better image quality and viewing angles with this monitor. As for me, I know I'd pay double for the best options, but the options aren't available. So this is for people like me. For those who don't have such special needs, there are better options.
