Review on Lenovo ThinkVision M14 Anti Glare Monitor, 1920X1080 Screen by Joshua Deshpande

Great display with a small blemish

The panel itself is great. This is very similar to the bezels found on Lenovo's best laptops, such as the current X1 Carbon systems. It has stable brightness and a matte/anti-glare coating that eliminates glare without adding graininess. The only unexpected downside is the USB-C power transfer feature. The specifications state that it can pass up to 65 watts of power. That's true, but the display itself "takes" 15 watts from the power supply, giving the laptop 15 watts less than the power supply provides (or 65 watts, whichever is lower). So, for example, if you plug your display into a 60W power source and then plug your laptop into the display, your laptop will only see a 45W power source. This can be a problem on some laptops. For example, I have a ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 2. It's rated for optimal performance on a 135W source, but can run on a 60W source for normal everyday use, but won't even attempt a 45 -W source to use. If it sees this, it just ignores it and continues with the battery without keeping the current battery level. I'm traveling with a small 60w charger but I couldn't use it with a display between the charger and my laptop. In the specific case of the X1 Extreme, this isn't an issue as it has two USB-C ports, allowing me to connect a display and then plug the charger directly into the laptop using the second port. (Or I can use Lenovo's proprietary charger via the dedicated AC port.) However, this can be an issue on other systems like the Dell XPS 15. Generations prior to the 9500, released in 2020, are rated for a 130W source. and only have a USB-C/TB3 port and I don't think they will try to use a 45W source, although I'm not sure. The solution to the above is to simply get a more powerful USB power source C. For example, I recently got a 90W charger that works well enough that this type of charger allows the display to exceed the maximum supported 65W.
