I bought a maroon queen size bed for a full size bed. Fits perfectly. The quality is excellent. Although it's 100% polyester, the backing is non-slip so it shouldn't slip off the bed when you roll over. The fake is made of cotton fabric, not velvet. This is a sign of a lower quality quilt set. The Brielle Velvet Blanket has velvet lined overlays. I didn't deduct a star for fake support, but I probably should have. This duvet is slightly larger and heavier than Brielle's velvet set. The color is more maroon than the gemstone tone pictured. Since I bought it as a warehouse deal, I'll leave it as the price was fair. I would return it for full price as the color was not as pictured. The maroon shade doesn't match my granddaughter's color scheme. So I buy a different brand velvet blanket in a different color and try again. This blanket has square corners. That's a good thing, because the color varies greatly depending on the direction of the pile. You may need to twist it end to end to get the visual hue you want. One side is much darker than the other. Also, the pillowcases must be turned in the same direction as the quilt pile, otherwise they will be a completely different color. Both the duvet and the pillowcases are trimmed with velvet fabric. Because of this, the trim on the top of the simulator doesn't appear to be the same color as the trim on the bottom of the simulator. They are the same colour/fabric. Here, too, the direction of the pile causes a visual color difference on the velvet fabric. You don't have to break the terms of the deal, but if you're worried about that, be prepared that the inclusion of fictional material is a huge plus. Buying pads separately is inconvenient. I will either gift this quilt to someone or set it aside to pull out in December to put together a Christmas themed bedroom. I haven't washed this set yet so can't comment on how well it washes out. Another review said this duvet should be dried in the shade. I suspect this is because the color can fade in the sun. No problem. Hang up with the velvet side inwards. Who cares if the back end fades a little in the sun? Or hang it up in the evening and set it up in the morning. After it dries, I will air dry it in the dryer to fluff it up. I dry all my sheets. Even in winter on clear days. Sun freshness and UV disinfection. This blanket is quite heavy for a washing machine. Especially new washers. I would just try to wash it in the front loader. Top loaders with a central agitator would probably tear that apart. This is a function of the central agitator and quilt weight and does not affect the quality of the quilt. With the new top-loading water-saving models, the water set at the highest level does not fill the tank. So you don't risk using a top loading washing machine for this item. I HATE new washing machines that save water! But this is another story. I ALWAYS wash linens before use. Two reasons: chemical contamination and the presence of fecal contamination on tissues coming from outside our country. Independent laboratory tests have confirmed high levels of fecal contamination of fabrics, including bedding and clothing. I wash everything before using or wearing. The studies were too crude and the results too compelling for me to ignore. Always add borax to your laundry to keep fabrics soft. DO NOT dry ANYTHING in a dryer on high heat. The high temperature damages the tissue. Plastics are particularly susceptible to high temperatures. Update: That being said, I decided to go all out on the first wash. If it did fall apart I wanted it to happen within the return window. So I took the burgundy comforter and throws to the laundry and washed them in the largest front loading machine with hot water and extra spin settings. I used about 2 cups of BORAX and a generous helping of Dawn dish soap in the wash cycle. Came out beautiful. Then I put them in the dryer on high for 10 minutes. +5 minutes, then another +5 minutes. They were about 95% dry when I took them out of the dryer, folded them up and inspected them. Not a single problem! I was amazed at how much softer the fabric became after washing. The duvet is beautiful and of good quality. He's a nice weight. Not too easy and not too heavy. I couldn't measure the comforter before and after washing, so I can't give shrinkage information. a few more velvet quilts in different colors, some from different manufacturers, and I wanted to know how the velvet quilts would wash under the harshest conditions. This duvet passed my test with flying colours. This blanket will be a baby from now on. I expect a very long lifespan. I am renovating 3 beds. King, Queen and complete. When other velvet comforters arrive I will review and compare. I will buy this type of comforter from Tribeca again. I would feel safe giving this as a gift. 5 Stars.
