Review on Black Oster Electric Wine Opener by Adam Jackson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great bottle opener requires very little effort

I received this bottle opener as a gift and laughed at the idea at first. It seemed a bit lame to be honest, but after using it a few times I quickly changed my mind. It's easy to use (actually - people with ailments or injuries may be using too much force. More on that later). After seeing it in action, the friend who gave me this bought one and more other gifts herself. This thing is so good I even bought another one to use at the winery where I work part time. All the employees there love it and it has been in regular industrial use for almost a year without any signs of wear. Even wine bar regulars admire this magnificent device. Unfortunately I dropped mine. Didn't expect it to work at all after this, but it does work (which is why I'm still rating it 5 stars), although the switch pins are now somewhat separated. It's just an annoyance that I might end up wanting to replace. Now a suggestion for those who break their devices. Even the video rating seems to be using it incorrectly. Very little downward force is required when you use it. As soon as you feel that the screw is caught in the anchor, stop applying downward force and let the device work on its own. It ejects the cork without you pressing, and then you can push out the cork automatically. If you apply too much downward force you will actually make the device work harder than it should and potentially damage it. used (and I had a lot of these cheap things at home). These are usually cheap plastic "knife wheels" inside, but this one actually has two strong METAL blades inside that cut foil like no other! Corkscrew! At first I thought I might want to "upgrade" to Metrokane, but after a few weeks of use I hate it. It's heavier, slower, and doesn't always pop the cork all the way out of the bottle like the Oster. It's also more than twice the price! The only thing I like most about the Metrokane is the LCD that shows how many tugs remain on a charge, although I don't even know how accurate it is. If you have your eye on these corkscrews, save some money and get yourself an Easter!

Pros
  • Ergonomic design
Cons
  • So far so good
