Scanner hardware seems fine, although the first one that shipped was completely dead. I have 2 starts due to a dead scanner and ridiculous software bundled with Silverfast. The included Silverfast software is beyond useless. It doesn't support the scanner hardware very well and causes the scanner to spin constantly, slowing down performance significantly. It often freezes on Mac and has a very dumb user interface with a lot of unnecessary features for post-processing an image (which is done better in Lightroom and Photoshop). Also, the supported film types are limited and this is the only feature you really need for initial color correction after scanning the negative. You need to buy Vuescan (for $100) to use this scanner properly.
