I have a shiatsu neck massager that can be positioned at different points on the back, a TENS machine and several TENS type neck massagers. This one device does what most of them do. This HoMedics massager offers a range of different massages. There is a full back/neck shiatsu massage. The back can also be adjusted for roller massage and the width of the massage heads can be adjusted to my individual needs. The back moves the massage heads up and down the back at two different speeds that are user adjustable. There's also warmth for the neck and tail, and a fairly strong, adjustable vibration for the tail. It's strong enough to make you feel productive, but not strong enough to cause discomfort over time. Overall, this is a very well thought out massager. To try it out, I installed it on my work chair so I can give a little massage when my back hurts while I'm at work. The elastic straps that attach the seat to the body while driving can be reversed to attach it to the chair. My chair is quite large and the straps stretch well and fasten securely with Velcro. The massager is not going anywhere. It takes a little getting used to sitting on and I haven't decided yet if I'll leave it permanently attached. It's not uncomfortable to have it in a chair at all times, but it does raise my seating position to seat height or something like an extra 1-1.5 inches. This has the added benefit of being able to sit up straight and my mother would be proud to know that I'm finally sitting up. The controls are wired and fit into a nifty little pocket on the right side of the seat. It's easy to get it out of the way and access it when needed. The remote control is well assembled, the buttons respond to a pleasant click. Everything can be switched on and off via the remote control and adjusted as required. The detachable massage cushion has a separate on/off switch and heat switch, but as long as the cushion is attached to the main massager it can also be controlled with the remote control. While the power button works when plugged into the main massager, it is not needed unless it is disconnected. I really enjoy using it since I've had it. Sometimes I work long hours and it's great when I can turn on the massager and relieve my back pain whenever I want. Removable massage cushion is an added bonus. It's wireless and I can take it anywhere. I like to use it when I'm sitting on the couch and watching TV. It can be placed in any area of the back. With only power and heat buttons, it is very easy to use. Additional considerations: • Only the pillow is battery operated. It's not clear from the instructions or specs and I thought it was completely wireless. If it is not connected to the network, the control panel will not work. • Pressing the on/off button on the pillow applies sufficient force to lower the pillow. If you have carefully positioned the neck massage pillow to get the best massage when using the back massager, this setting will be canceled if you don't hold the pillow while pressing the power button. Of course, there's no reason to use that power button when connected to a back massager, but it's possible. • When I sit on the back massager with the neck massager plugged in, the neck massager doesn't work very well for me. Maybe it's the shape of my chair, but I can't really feel how it works until I lean against it. • The instruction manual is actually not that well done. It looks like a thick manual, but it's in English, Spanish and French. It contains information about all the functions of the remote control, which is good. Part of the fun is playing around with it to get the most out of it. • There is a screw on the back panel that needs to be removed before use. It's pretty hard to miss. The warning is pretty scary - if you don't remove the screw before use, you could cause irreversible damage to the massager. The kit even includes a small Allen key for loosening and discarding the screw. The instructions clearly state that the screw cannot be replaced. It's hard to miss. Don't worry, just plug it in and try to use it without reading the instructions or loosening a screw or your nice new massager will become an expensive doorstop pretty quickly. Either way, this is a great massager. It digs into my back well and works out any knots I have. I really like that it is both a roller massager and a shiatsu massager. It really has everything and gives a great massage.
