Bought this item (including faucet) to replace a leaking tank on an old InSinkErator my wife installed about 6-7 years ago (I believe? ). In any case, there were two reasons I bought this item: 1) at $153 (plus tax) it seems like better value than similar models, and 2) the tank connections (and mounting holes) are identical to my old one Tanks meant I didn't have to mess with installing a new faucet. I read some reviews on here that claimed the new faucet's "button" function was "unreliable," so I was glad I didn't have to deal with that. Since I didn't have to replace the faucet, it took about 5 minutes to install. Literally plug and play. At first the water had a rather unpleasant taste. This "plastic" aftertaste has already been mentioned by many reviewers. However, after a few days and several full tank cleanings, the water seems to have become much tastier. My gripe with these systems (this is our third time living in the same house in 20 years) is that they should last more than a few years, especially considering the price of these things. Then again, maybe I'm just naive; Sounds like 3 units in 20 years isn't that bad after all. Another problem - and this really annoys me - you can't just buy a replacement tank separately, you also have to pay for the faucet. I even called InSinkErator and they said the same thing, they don't sell replacement tanks separately. What can I say? The best I can give at the moment is 3 stars mainly because I can't buy the tank as a separate item. .STUPID! By the way. I've attached some photos from my old device that failed. For your information. I completely disassembled the old unit and came to the following conclusions: 1) I'm pretty sure the stainless steel tank rarely, if ever, leaks. after all, it's stainless steel. 2) I believe the damage you see in these picks was due to two things: a) a loose water fitting at the top of the unit that allowed water to slowly seep into the circuits. b) inside. the hose will become brittle and likely to leak as well. 3) Hard water. While I don't think our hard water was the cause of any leaks, after disassembling the tank and looking inside where the heating coil is located, I was amazed at how much hard dirt had accumulated, most likely due to hard water. . Sump under the new unit and will periodically check for leaks. If caught early enough, I hope that fixing - as opposed to replacing $$$$ - almost any leak will be a relatively minor task.
