Overview: I bought the aluminum 3 port 2 bay model to build my own server. It was terribly difficult to fit into the NORCO RPC-231; However, this may or may not be an issue with NORCO chassis bays, so I can't specifically rate this backplane due to the extremely tight fit. I literally had to lay the board on the backplane and nail it to the case with a hammer. I was very careful, so it took quite a while. As a result, he stood perfectly! Quality: full metal on the outside, which I really like. I subtracted a star for the simple fact that the internal components are PLASTIC. And no, I don't mean the obvious SATA/SAS connectors, fans and the like. The hinge and the tooth that keeps the metal latch closed are made of plastic. This is a rather counterintuitive design as the purpose of the keyed metal case is to keep the drives safe inside. You don't even need a lever to open these doors, just a forceful flick of your finger to open them (and a plastic tooth in my case). Usage: I am using this backplate with three (3) 6TB WD Red Pros in RAID 0 connected to a SuperMicro Mini-ITX Xeon D-1540 board for backup storage only. He's been pumping like a champ for the past few months. So far I haven't had any memory issues, everything has worked exactly as intended. Price: $80, slightly more expensive than the quality of the product; However, it is relatively cheap compared to other brands. Recommendation: Yes, I would recommend this product. However, I'll try to find something safer next time.
