Would I buy again from Computer Accessories & Peripherals

I like that the drives just plug in without having to be mounted on a sled. I haven't had any problems with mine, and for the person who said the fan didn't do much, I can feel the airflow from the front of the backplane so I'm pretty sure it's doing its job. The fit was good on my Enermax Ostrogg.

Great disc compartment - no lock or caddy required!

Superb CD compartment with metal lids and no 'basket'. Just insert a disc and BINGO. A note about several Western Digital SATA drives: you must press them with your finger before fully closing the drive compartment door to ensure they are firmly seated against the back panel. No problem for me. I looked at two other models from startech.com and believe these are the only ones available. The lock is also a trunk.

Pros
  • Glittery
Cons
  • Not as good as advertised

Shame Waste of time and money

Thing is literally garbage. I got the first installed perfectly. When I tried to install the first hard drive, the latch in my hand came loose. OK. never mind I sent it back for a replacement. The setup was the same. The hard drives went in with no broken latches. So better than the first time. I download it and 1 of the sata ports is not recognized. cable changed. discs replaced. This is DOA. This time I only take a refund.

Pros
  • Looking forward to it
Cons
  • Miscellaneous Miscellaneous

but it's normal. Big complaint

Decent backplane, has worked with all my drives so far with no compatibility issues. Two criticisms: the blue LEDs are a bit bright, but that's okay. The big complaint is that the mounting holes ripped off on me with almost no torque. I managed to keep a few intact and they stay in place pretty well, but the plastic case ripped off at least three holes with little to no pressure. The first impression was not very good, but I made it.

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons

Great addition to your computer

Great addition to your computer for expanded and easily accessible storage space. The slots on the sides were a little shallow for the dividers between my 5.25" bays, but that's a space limitation for 3.5" drives, not a design issue. The overall height seems to be a bit higher than 2 bays, which might make using adjacent bays interesting, but I didn't have any 5.25" devices to test. This is ideal for those who want easy access to RAID arrays or don't have internal drive bays available. .

Pros
  • Great product
Cons
  • Almost everything is fine

Very loud fan after 1 month.

As far as basic functionality goes, I have no complaints. I inserted three 4TB HGST drives to add storage to my HTPC/Media Server setup, everything showed up and worked great. Hooking it up was easy and the fan wasn't too loud. However, I will find fault with the reliability of the hardware. Less than a month after installation, the fan sounds like it already has a bad bearing and makes a pretty horrible noise every time it turns on. Every time one of the three discs spins, I even hear noisesโ€ฆ

door and latch materials: quality could be improved. I cannot give exact characteristics of the transmission as they are very subjective. But I installed and tested Basic, Dynamic and GPT modes with no problems. SSDs in 3.5" adapter cases also worked. I've used software mirroring with no problems (if the disks are compatible with each other - they must conform to PHYSICAL sector specs). It fit into my PC case fairly snugly. internal drive mounting tabs (since you're occupying two 5.25" slots)โ€ฆ

Good backplane in the Computers & Accessories category

Overview: I bought the aluminum 3 port 2 bay model to build my own server. It was terribly difficult to fit into the NORCO RPC-231; However, this may or may not be an issue with NORCO chassis bays, so I can't specifically rate this backplane due to the extremely tight fit. I literally had to lay the board on the backplane and nail it to the case with a hammer. I was very careful, so it took quite a while. As a result, he stood perfectly! Quality: full metal on the outside, which I really likeโ€ฆ
