Review on πŸ”Œ Hopkins 48190: Endurance Quick Fix Vehicle Side 4-Flat Connector – Efficient and Reliable Solution for a Secure Trailer Connection by Tom Roberts

Doesn't work as it should.

I purchased this replacement connector after the single connector on my Toyota truck broke in the U-Haul connector on my trailer. Connection of wires to this connector is intended to be accomplished by inserting the stripped wires into V-grooves in four flat metal studs and screwing a clamping plate over them. The slots in the pins must cut through the insulation and make contact with the wires. None of the pins cut through the insulation on the truck wiring harness wires, and I had to manually cut through the insulation with a utility knife. This left a small amount of insulation residue on the ends of the wires hanging from the threads, meaning these little bits of insulation could come loose completely and the wires could slip out of the joints if pulled hard enough. To counteract this, I smeared the wires at the exit point with clear silicone in hopes that this would help keep the wires secure. Also, the hex nuts on the back of the connector must be held in place by the hex pockets in the plastic, but very light torque on the screws holding the clamp plate will rip out the hex pocket and allow the nuts to turn. . I would give the connector 1 star, but love the four little red LEDs on the connector to show you're connected.

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Definitely a bad product
