Works very well. It's bright enough to draw attention. As everyone seems to have said, it's cheap plastic. I'm honestly not sure what you want to make it out of. There's no reason to make it out of metal, it won't do any work other than sit there. I very easily backed into a pile of snow at just the right height and broke the last one I bought from a local store. :( That's why I got this, but I only broke the red plastic, the rest was fine, even the lightbulb, which is metal, wouldn't matter in this case either. There are two things I did It looks like one of them may be my fault and I'll update this if I can fix it, otherwise it could be a wiring issue on my end, or maybe I just ran into a partially faulty unit, so like the brake lights Works great (2005 Ford Ranger) 2. The most important thing and the reason I knocked it down is that the wiring harness is too short for most trucks, unless your plug is directly above the hitch receiver you will need probably an extension cord Luckily I had one from a previous flashlight I had otherwise I wouldn't have been able to use it without it.
