Review on Optimal Weight Control Dry Cat Food for Spayed/Neutered Cats by Royal Canin by Dana Wood

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Works as well as WC Foods recipe

Pros: Low in calories compared to regular "homemade"/light OTC cat food, no prescription required, contains fiber, acceptable taste, seems somewhat satisfying Cons: Still more expensive than standard OTC cat food. My cat has had severe eating and weight problems since being neutered. I've tried Royal Canin's Scientific Diet and OTC Light Foods. On both occasions she continued to gain weight and complained hysterically whenever I tried to reduce her intake to less than half a glass. In desperation, I switched to Royal Canin prescription cat food for weight control. I was able to stabilize her weight on the formula (although I didn't significantly reduce it) by continuing to feed her half a cup, which seems to be the minimum amount she needs to feel properly nourished. But RC fodder was very expensive, requiring either constant new scripts from the vet, or even more money to buy online from random vendors who didn't mind the lack of a script (but charged you extra for the privilege). This new OTC specialty brand appears to work just like the prescription products of old, without the hassles that come with it. She eats it without complaining, but usually leaves some in the bowl for the rest of the day. And while she stays on half a glass. Most cat owners probably don't need that special or expensive food, but I was glad to find it.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Frequency
