Revainrating 5 out of 5

Love it! And at night, the rear view is impressive.

After much deliberation I bought a small screen wired system as a retro version of my 13 year old Mazda pickup. I was afraid that wireless systems would have too many problems, wired systems are more reliable. I didn't want the 7 inch screen or even the small screen on my dash to obstruct my view and there was no room in the console for a screen. I love my factory rearview mirror and the ability to dim it for headlights at night. So, a hardwired, small screen was the best choice for me. The installation took much longer than I expected. Since I have a pickup truck I had to run wires from the tail light under the bumper and video wires under the truck Inside. Finding the hole and running the cables back into the cockpit, then under the plastic quarter panels, door moldings (frozen - rusty screws), windshield moldings, etc. took quite a while. the reverse light was trivial. The goal was to ONLY power the monitor when reversing. Trying to find the exact right cable in a large bundle of cables was ridiculous. Eventually it was decided to run the power cable through a separate cable (not included). from the tail light to the monitor. Worked great and MUCH lighter. I passed a long piece of flexible bare wire back and forth between the sun visor clips a few times and then secured the monitor there. This puts the monitor EXACTLY where I want it, right above the rear view mirror. I am positively excited about the results. The grid lines on the monitor help a lot. You can adjust the camera up or down as you like, and then mount a box or something behind the car to measure the distance to the grid line position. All the cables I installed are hidden except for a sun visor. The view during the day is great and the view on the monitor at night is just magical. It's so bright it's like I turned on reverse lights. I waited a week after installation to write this review. So far so good and I'm very happy with all the decisions made. Before taking on this project, you'll need some basic DIY skills and an understanding of how things work. This should NOT be your first or even your first 100 DIY attempts. But WOW I am always happy with the results which are way better than the photos below.
