When I first plugged it in it made a noise that could permanently damage my eardrums. I understand why all these barcode scanners are high volume by default. They need to be heard in noisy environments such as outdoor concerts and markets. For my use in a quiet office, I quickly found a code in the booklet to deactivate all sounds. After that I was very satisfied. The stand is strong, the cable is of a very high quality so it will last for many years. I mainly use it for 2D codes, but it works well for 1D as well. The acceptable range when scanning is slightly larger than when scanning with my PDA, which is nice. All in all a great barcode scanner that works without any additional drivers and comes with a standard booklet of options. Don't waste it and I think you will be very happy with it.
