Review on Dremel 1453 Accessory Chain Sharpening by Victor Kakaruk

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Instructions are useless and conflicting - impossible to follow

I used this product to sharpen a STIHL chainsaw. The product itself isn't bad (nor great) but the instructions are utter nonsense and if you follow them the saw will work poorly or not at all. The written instructions specifically state (in both step 2 and step 4) that the guide should lie flat against the "tooth". These steps refer to Figure 5 and Figure 6. In Figure 5, the guide is lying flat on the tooth. In Figure 6, the guide never rests on any tooth, it rests on the chain's "depth gauge". This means that the teeth on one side of the chain are ground to the level of the tooth and the teeth on the other side are ground to the level of the depth gauge. The two heights are different. Thus, the teeth on one side are different from the teeth on the other side. Now my chain doesn't cut straight. Makes you wish the idiots selling this ever read and double check their own instructions. I've spent 30 years in a product testing lab, making sure equipment works to specs and user manuals. It's not like this.

Pros
  • Power and hand tools
Cons
  • Cord is shorter than other pickaxes
