Review on ASUS XG17AHPE Portable Adaptive Sync Micro HDMI 17.3", Full HD 1920x1080, 240Hz, HDMI, IPS Display by Michael Reilly

Revainrating 3 out of 5

The panel is of excellent quality, the price is too high, the tripod mounting point is very weak

Updated review after using it for a while. I ordered it to use both as a portable gaming monitor for my sff desktop and as a second monitor for working from home (of course it's nice to be able to work with a second monitor from the back). The display is very fast for gaming and has good brightness/contrast even when I'm outside on a moderately sunny summer day. The included USB cable is fairly short and stiff, but I managed to get it to work with the cable. 3m active USB-C cable. For those of you with a GPU without a Virtual Channel/USB-C connector, I couldn't get a bi-directional USB-C to Displayport cable from Club3d to work with the display. You'd be forced to use the HDMI connector, meaning you can't use variable refresh on an Nvidia GPU. The option that includes a tripod and carrying case wasn't available when I bought it, so I opted for a Gorillapod 3K tripod. to add some more height and angle adjustment. The tripod mounting point on the back is not flush with the back of the panel and protrudes slightly. Such a problem as the tiny plastic circle around the attachment point is the only surface that the rubber on my Gorillapod touches, so the monitor just spins freely and is a little tricky to balance when you want to use it in portrait mode. . I somehow got around this by sticking 2 pieces of double sided 3M VHB tape (leaving the foil on the other adhesive side) to the tripod clamp that screws into the threaded hole. The VHB tape acts as a pad to fill the gap between the tripod clamp and the back of the display to better distribute the weight and add a bit more friction. After using the display longer, the tripod mount on the back is completely loose and almost unusable.
