Review on Alkaid Sharpener Dual Grit Sharpening Multipurpose by Seth Singh

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Nice big puck. The bamboo case is a big plus.

The bamboo storage case not only serves to protect and transport/store the washer, but can also be used as a holder or stand when sharpening. Can be a little slippery if not used on a rubberized or grippy surface. To prevent this from happening, I can put tough silicone feet on it. Since the bottom and top are identical (they are held together with magnets on the buttons), the box can be flipped over and opened to reveal both sides of the washer. At about 4 inches wide, the disc itself is slightly larger than the standard disc. or typical Lansky-style field pucks. Adding another half an inch around the body makes it a fairly large item for your backpack if you plan on using it in the field. My only concern is that the grains appear to have a relatively tight density on either side. - I'm guessing one side is about 250 grit and the other side maybe 300 grit. Not much of a difference and not much at all compared to Lansky washing machines which are often 120/280 grit.

Pros
  • DUA-GRIT: The rough #180 side removes chips on the ax blade of the point tool (blue side), the medium #600 grit on the other side gives you a "jagged" appearance of the trailing edge (white side).
Cons
  • No instructions
