I hesitated to use a roof rack but had no choice as my car cannot use roof racks. I bought a double bike rack and use it to transport mountain bikes with friends or for solo rides. I took the advice of other reviews and wrapped the hooks in tape to prevent scratches and give them a bit more support. If you tighten it according to the pattern given in the instructions, then this rack will be very reliable. I also recommend purchasing a bungee or strap to secure the bike to the rack's bottom bracket. The first time I used a rack with only two top mounting points, the bike pivoted at those points, lifting the tires out of the air that was rushing around the car. After tying it down with straps to keep it from climbing, it's firm and I can drive 70-80 mph on the freeway with ease.
