That's a good rule of thumb, although my 6" Starrett is better. That's why. The Starrett rule has a less shiny chrome finish that can be viewed from almost any angle without glare. Incremental Lines on the Starrett scale are easier to read due to the better change in line length on the hard-to-read 32 and 64 scales. The numbers are larger and the depth of the lines is also deeper. You can see examples in my photos. Starrett does not shine metric rules which is why I bought it.The Mitutoyo feels as solid as my Starrett, easy to pencil mark and overall great value for money.I probably don't even realize what I'm chopping at but for those who do, Starrett clearly wins.If you measure at 64, your eyes will thank you for the Starrett.
