And most importantly: the sound! The ATH M40x is my first workhorse for recording and mixing almost exclusively with VST instruments. And this horse plows in good conscience. No, their sound, of course, is not ideally analytical. But it is without pronounced "embellishments". This is the sound without steroids. For these purposes, the M40x also has more cunning (and slightly more expensive) competitors, like the DT 770 PRO. So, as always, we listen first and only then we buy. Speaking of prices. We must keep in mind that the regular ear pads in these ears are extremely mediocre, and this can significantly affect the usability and, of course, the sound quality. The situation was corrected by Dekoni ear pads (straight). I also use Sonarworks software equalization to get the most neutral sound possible. The ATH M40x is a very good instrument for recording, listening and basic mix operations. The low resistance allows you to work even without an amplifier. A good choice for the beginner enthusiast.
