The 11th Gen i7 11700K sits between the budget i5 and budget i9 11900k. I think at this price point (I bought it pre-launch for $399) it's a good product. It's cheaper than the 5800X, has very similar performance, and is a lot more fun to overclock. Rocket Lake (11th gen) supports dedicated core overclocks to balance the top two cores and other cooler cores. It can also draw slightly more voltage than Skylake++++ (1.45V load voltage is probably safe according to the Reddit AMA), although operation at all core frequencies is slightly lower than Comet Lake with improved IPC. It actually feels a bit cooler to me, but power consumption can get pretty crazy in stress tests. The gaming load is not bad at all. I saw about 100W on Horizon Zero Dawn. If you don't need the highest overclock, the i7 can still get you close to the i9's clock speeds, or even exceed them with manual tuning, without the price premium and similar real-world performance. Coming from the i9-10900k, gaming FPS is very similar to UW 1440p, but Rocket Lake seems much more stable when overclocked - you get BSOD errors or not - not WHEA for example. The amount of RAM is a bit exaggerated, the performance loss when running in a 1:2 ratio is not as large as with Ryzen. You can run 4800+ RAM at very high speeds and lower timings and get a lot of performance out of these chips. I'm an enthusiast, I've had Ryzen and Intel systems and I just love customizing Intel processors. I'm glad to be one of the first to leave a review on this topic. It came as same day delivery! Good luck to you all.
