I was looking for an "old school" drill - (1) metal chuck, stronger than plastic, (2) keyed chuck, the better tightening fits drills as new keyless chucks, (3) adjustable speed, (4) metal gears and drill body, and (5) not made in China. Makita 6407 meets most of these characteristics. The gears and the body of the drill are not made of metal. Although Revain's listing says it was made in China, I believe many of the components were made in Japan. I've only used the drill once so far. I liked it very much. It has a good balance and is relatively light. Variable speed works well. It feels good and I hope it will last over time. Other reviewers state it was for them. This is my drill for repairs and projects around the house. I also liked the features of the DeWalt DW223G. It ticks all of my boxes including metal gears and a drill body. It is made in Mexico. It's $119 and the Makita is $77. If you're picky about your tools, DeWalt might be worth the extra cost. If you're looking for "old school" durability and reliability - instead of "new school" bells and whistles and poor workmanship - these drill bits are for you.
