Cheap alternative to tubular mason bee nests

Size 8mm perfect for mason bee nests. I pressed them into short PVC tubes with lids and either taped them to structures like walls or fence posts or stuffed them into my woodpile. I also cut them up to use as liners for heavy cardboard bee tubes. Cardboard tubes cost at least 10 cents each. They cost about 2 cents. The cardboard tubes were only 6β€³ and 7 3/4β€³ and could hold 3 more bee cells with a high probability that all 3 would be females. Almost all the straws in my garden, from 2 to 300, filled up in 3 weeks. I've used about 1000 on a friend's blueberry farm and haven't tested them yet. Straws can get wet during storage over the winter, destroying the cocoons. I need to figure out how to keep her dry.
