Review on πŸŽ›οΈ MMF-1.5 Music Hall Turntable by Tammy Horner

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good enough for the price, but it never ends there

This turntable is quiet and gets the job done or spins a record and passes what the cartridge picks up at phono or line level to the amplifier. It looks decent and the legs absorb most of the impact of the ground. Here are the things to look out for and spend money on repairing: Adjusting the downforce takes a bit of work. The accompanying manual suggests using the counterweight at the T mark - this results in too much power. If you do this by hand you will find that the counterweight is further from the T mark. Ideally, you should check downforce with a chain dynamometer (prices range from $11 to $130). The included conical stylus is very basic and you will at least have to replace it with an elliptical stylus. If not the best cartridge. (Price range $40-several hundred) The cartridge should give good alignment from the factory, but if you notice internal track distortion finer alignment of the cartridge with a protractor is required ($15-30). There is a speed adjustment knob. as the hard drive speed may not be accurate. To fine-tune the speed, you need a strobe or stroboscope (price range 15-130). Music Hall MMF 1.5 is a good player for beginners to start a hobby. And when you get hooked, you'll look out for more expensive things, some of which are over 30,000! programs). A smartphone app is fine for a rough speed correction, but for a more precise correction use a flash mat or disk with an incandescent or halogen bulb.
