Review on Canon EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 Image Stabilized USM SLR Lens for EOS Digital SLR Cameras - White Box (Bulk Packaging) by Manaporn A Skuljaroe ᠌

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Exactly what I needed, it's a great buy, I recommend it.

The lens is completely worth the money (lower price limit). Good for landscape photography, more or less for outdoor portraiture. Universal - you can make a panorama, and then shoot its details in more detail. Reliable - never let me down under any circumstances, although after I fell on it, I had to carry it in for repair - the focusing unit broke. Dust does not accumulate in itself. All its shortcomings only seem terrible, in fact they are killed with a couple of clicks in any graphic editor, but its advantages are difficult not to take into account. In general, a good universal glass "for every day".

Pros
  • 1) Range of focal lengths. 2) Constructive - convenient rings for adjusting the focal length and focus. 3) The ability to manually fine-tune the focus after autofocus. 4) 17-24mm barrel distortion that can be used as a beautiful artistic effect.
Cons
  • 1) Small f-number, especially at the long end. 2) Not very effective image stabilizer. 3) Chromatic aberrations at 17-24mm. 4) Barrel distortion at 17-24 mm, which does not allow shooting architecture very well.
