The first tachometer I ordered was intermittent - this meant that the laser beam lit up strongly, but after a while (1-20 seconds) the light started to fade, which is noticeable negatively impacted the testimony. Pressing and releasing the "Test" button will make it work again, but like before, it will also start to disappear after an indefinite amount of time. Helpful but annoying. Thinking I just had a bad unit, I ordered a replacement unit, but the replacement unit was even worse than the original. The replacement may or may not show a value, and if it does, the value will never update beyond that point, regardless of range to the reflective target. I even tried different angles of reflection to get readings. Unlike the first, which worked intermittently, the plug-in unit is completely unusable. When I ordered these tachometers, I wondered if the $17 device could read even the simplest 1000 RPM speed I needed to measure. The low cost was intriguing, but I didn't use my common sense on either the first or second order! I cannot recommend this particular type of laser tachometer to anyone. Please note that there are multiple sellers offering devices of the same style at different prices. Look closely at the photos and you will see that the shapes, functions, etc. are identical. My measurement/monitoring requirements are fairly modest - 1000 RPM on a 2" spinning wheel with the supplied strip of reflective tape. Throughout the radius these parameters must be GOOD within the stated capabilities of this device.
