As expected, full use of this device requires a separate power supply. The USB data connection has enough power (typically 5W) to connect and use one or maybe two USB devices, but additional power is required to connect and use more devices simultaneously. so my problem. The power connection on the device is not shown or described. The device I received uses a Molex connector instead of the standard SATA power connector (as you would expect). Molex connectors were deprecated over 10 years ago, and no modern computer has Molex-based power connectors. I have just received a product that has been stored for ten years? I have a way of knowing that, but developing the current-gen product this way was foolish. Was this device designed to upgrade older PCs to USB 3? No, because it also uses a modern USB 3.1 data hub connection, which wouldn't have existed in the PC generation where Molex connectors were common. It disappoints me that either a photo showing the connection to the auxiliary power input or even a full text description could have avoided this situation. (Wasn't this information provided on purpose? Was this design a cost saving measure? 10 cents maybe?) I've been building computers since the late 1980's and thought I had every type of adapter I could think of. No, so now I have to either return this device or buy an outdated adapter to get it fully working. :-( If you want to make full use of more than 2 of the 7 available USB 3.0 ports on this device, you must also purchase a "SATA male to Molex female power adapter".
