Preferred this Yost to the Wilton

When I bought my Yost 750DI I didn't know about the Wilton 69999 which is good because I could have bought the Wilton based on the good reputation and previous ownership. I almost always had a Wilton vise, and the shops I worked at had Wilton vises. Wilton has always been one of the best. As I said, I wasn't aware of the 69999 when I bought my Yost 750DI and I'm very happy with it. After looking at the Wilton 69999 I was surprised by a few things compared to the Yost 750DI. The 750DI is made from 60,000 lb ductile iron (weighs 63 lb), while the 69999 is made from 30,000 lb ductile iron (weighs 45 lb). This allows the Yost cast to apply more force before it breaks or deforms. Yost 750DI castings can reach a clamping force of 9000 pounds, I'm not sure about the Wilton but I'm pretty sure it's not as strong as Yost. The 750DI has three sets of jaws; parallel serrated top jaws, serrated tubular jaws and smooth V-shaped jaws for round and flat workpieces. All of these jaws are made of hardened steel and are ALL interchangeable. The tube jaws are held as loose pins that allow the jaws to align themselves, which is a nice feature. Model 69999 also has three sets of jaws; parallel serrated jaws, serrated tubular jaws and smooth V-shaped jaws, but only one tubular jaw is removable? The detachable tubular jaw is hardened steel and the non-detachable side is cast. Both have a swivel base with double locking and can be rotated 360 degrees. Wilton uses a latch to tighten the swivel, while Yost's swivel is tightened when you clench your jaws. The Wilton locking swivel is a nice feature. The Wilton swivel also has 90 degree left and right indexing. The Yost pivot has 12 locking points (using a spring-loaded pull pin) in 30-degree increments, which is a nice feature. The works on the Wilton are classified for general use and light traders, while the Yost are classified for industrial use. I think the best comparison for the Wilton 69999 would be the Yost 750E. It's more of a mid-vise and closer to the Wilton than the 750DI. There is also confusion online as to where these vises are made. NONE of these are made in the USA, I believe both are made in China. Some other comparison specs: Yost 750DI: Wilton 69999 jaw width 5 inches. : 5” Jaw Opening 5” : 5 ¼” Throat Depth 4” : 3” Tube Capacity from 1/8” to 3 ½” : ½” to 3” I'm really happy with this Yost 750DI I've been using it for two years and that's it still great. I will definitely consider Yost again in the future if their other vises are as good as this one.
