Review on Tilt Wireless Hydrometer And Thermometer (Green) by Will Kern

Continuous hygienic fermentation data

Pros: Easily determine when fermentation starts and ends without taking a sample. Almost continuous information. The Google Sheet hosted site is already set up and easy to use. Cons: In short, requires a dedicated smart device in "always-on" mode for continuous readings - the smart device needs to be almost in the fermentor to take a reading. Can't communicate through all fermentation chambers (my phone must be in the fridge, some cones don't work with it). Requires multi-point calibration to get accurate readings. Gravity indicator reset. Starting pitch, frills, fermenter walls, CO2, etc. The accompanying instructions make no mention of the need for multi-point calibration or the "frill effect" that causes a density increase (yes, an increase) at the start of fermentation. Price My biggest advantage is that I can get a static hydrometer reading for 3 consecutive days to know that fermentation is complete. With this device, I noticed that the end of fermentation seemed to be taking longer than I could tell from the hydrometer, and this prompted me to increase the fermentation time by several days than before. Improvements The device can use Wi-Fi instead of Bluetooth and optionally connect to the PC application. Then there would be no need to waste a smart device (and that's a screen!). In the attached material, mention the PBW sensitivity (mine sat in PBW for 2 days before I read on the website that it could be harmful.), the Krausen effect and the multi-point calibration required. Or just add a link to your website and remove the "quick start" implying that the device is ready to use. controller), so charging $130 for a device is absurd.

Pros
  • Compatible with Apple iPhone/iPad or Android smartphones/tablets or Tilt Pi. Most Bluetooth 4.0+ devices will work with a tilt hydrometer.
Cons
  • Some bugs
