The lever makes them easy to switch when placed in places only your fingertips can reach, as opposed to the flat switches you see here. When making kill switches, never mount the switch on a ground wire, mount the switch properly so that the switch terminal is not grounded to your chassis, ignition/clutch/fuel tank switches are probably the easiest to access etc etc.
