so I bought another product from this company that wasn't for cold mist humidifiers. This one says yes. I've used it for a week and haven't noticed any difference in the humidifier staying cleaner longer. The way it reads it should stop the white dust. I have already solved this problem by using filtered water. So I can't say for sure if it stops white dust, but I can say it doesn't stop pink dirt from forming in the humidifier. As a further warning, this product, just like the other product, comes with several warnings not to bring it into contact with skin. No doubt diluting that risk will reduce those risks, but it still seems crazy to put something in a cool mist humidifier that can hurt you if it touches you. I found that the combination of Protec cartridges and filtered tap water was better than anything else at slowing down pink dirt and white dust.
