You only orient yourself in one direction. I bought them to hang ivy vines in my office. We have a drop ceiling so the 3M stick on the hooks didn't work (neither on the support brackets). They are made for that! However, they only hang perpendicular to the crossbar, which was a problem for me as the vine also ran perpendicular to the crossbar (ie the hook was in the same direction as the vine). However, I made it with two hooks on each seam instead of one. But for the price they do what they are supposed to do. I recommend it.
