Doesn't melt in the sun for me. It's thin plastic so your child can pull and stretch the holes but won't hurt their fingers. We had no problem putting it up, maintaining it for 9 months and putting it down during the move. (Buy zip ties and such, when you get this it has nothing but this black mesh. Can't install it without your own materials).
