As a bottle opener, it's terrible. Just way too small. I had to stare too long to open a standard bottle. I have no idea what a plastic surfaced magnetic board is for. The ring sticks to it like a magnet, but why? Instead of grabbing the bottle opener, you now have to grab both and then put the base/plate back on - while it makes it more labor intensive, it doesn't make it easier. As a bottle opener, it's small and functional, but the quality and utility is about the same as a corkscrew on a camping knife (read: not great). If you use a ring to put it on a bottle - it's true that you won't lose your ring and bottle opener - as long as you don't recycle it. And it would be embarrassing to drink from a bottle or attempt to pour from a bottle with a ring hanging from it. I just don't understand why you need a cork hanging on your bottle.
