We bought these for our home for a number of reasons, the main one being my wife's back problems. We switched from a memory foam mattress to shikibuton and tatami and it greatly reduced the pain for both of us. We're also shrinking our living space, so having a bed that can be put away and cleaned in the morning is great. It helps keep the living space clean and tidy and also helps with allergies (keeps pets out of bed). Eventually, we switched to this type of bed in preparation for moving to the countryside of Japan, where it's a common place to sleep. We've gotten so used to them on our trips to Japan that the shock of sleeping on the floor (actually) is long gone for us. If you've never been to Japan and tried this type of bedding, it might feel a bit uncomfortable at first, but the pros definitely outweigh any cons. questions we had.
