I bought these knowing I would probably have to modify them to suit my needs and they worked great. Was looking for something low profile that wasn't sharp or capable of hitting a toe. They hold a hatch on my trailer tongue that serves as an entry step for my truck mounted camper. So I threw away the hook that came with it, bent the latch brackets to 90Β° and installed them. They have only been worn for a week but seem to be holding up well. As for the rubber parts, time will tell what the weather will do to them if the trailer is stored outside.
