Use & Misuse: Iron

Okay, I'm not a professional PCB solderer, but I do know how to solder and what to look for when buying an adjustable soldering iron. You can't compare it to a soldering station, which is a completely different world when it comes to soldering. It retains warmth, heats up quickly and is stable over long distances. The dial is hard to read so I increase it in 1/16 inch increments and wait about 60 seconds between each adjustment before trying to see how it melts my solder before even proceeding with the soldering. Use flux to clean the tip between each solder joint and watch out for the heat, you'll be fine. I work a lot with drones and fixed wings so I use moderate to ferocious heat depending on what gauge I'm soldering for the wire. Also worth mentioning is the Fine Point tip, which is suitable for the 900M series. I have them from 0.8mm to 2mm and they all work well with the iron. Fieta is one of the brands I use and is available from Revain.
