Review on 💪 Corsair CMFSS3B-256GB Flash Survivor Stealth 256GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive - Black: Durable and Fast Storage Solution by Wade Meeks

I am continuing my original review (below) because I recently dropped my disc on the floor. The sound of loose parts inside the cylinder was not reassuring. The disc stopped rising when inserted into the computer. I carefully opened the drive and found a very small black component that had fallen off the circuit board. It was similar to the other components of the black square (see photo). I was panicking because I had just used this drive to back up my work before erasing my laptop. Years of family photos, important immigration documents, and many other irreplaceable items were now locked into a memory chip. To make matters worse, I live in a foreign country and deciding who to trust with my important information made repairing the drive a very risky proposition, but since I had a deadline on one of my projects I decided to try it. It wasn't touched in some stores, but a guy at a cell phone repair kiosk added a small dab of solder to connect the leads where the component used to be. When I got to the office, I carefully connected it to the computer and luckily the content appeared, but the hard drive was very unstable. It took many attempts to load my data due to the drive disconnecting frequently. I suspect the missing component was either a capacitor or a resistor. I am now re-rating my rating to two stars because a mere 1 meter drop onto a concrete floor still sealed in a protective cylinder should not have killed my drive. . I really wanted to like this drive, but the reason I bought it and not the other options was because I really needed it to be durable and reliable. Now it's a brick. When I have time I might send it back to Corsair so they can figure out how to improve the design. ============ Original review below ============== The Corsair Flash Survivor Stealth 256GB USB 3.0 is very well made. I bought it in addition to the 64GB version I bought five years ago. The speed is very good and the design is great. I am an ESL teacher. The Survivor I bought five years ago is used almost every day in my Chinese class on all sorts of old computers and has never let me down. The new Stealth is great, but for my application I'd prefer it if it was a light color that's harder to ignore or leave behind. I'd also prefer a strap attachment instead (like the old one) because that's my way of reminding myself it's in use. The preferred method is to unscrew the drive and let the case dangle. I never put the tray in my pocket or bag again unless I screw the disc back in, but the new one has a strap on the drive which means I have to leave the tray free on the table. Using Linux Ubuntu and the Gparted partition editor, I partitioned the drive so that the first partition is very large, and then I put a small 10GB partition at the end. Windows shows the first partition with all my files but not the second partition. But when I interrupt the boot sequence I can boot Ubuntu 15.10 which was installed on the second partition and then Ubuntu shows the first partition with all my files as well. Disc, not case Black color makes it easy to lose. Go ahead and buy this product. You will not be disappointed.
