Review on Spectra Premium 94576 Heater Core by Clayton Morris

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Precise fit - perfect. Aluminum, not brass, is much more efficient than brass/copper. Continue reading.

Bought for a 1978 Lincoln Mark V. The simplest heater core I've ever made. The replacement is under the hood on this car, not under the dashboard. Removal: 4 screws, 2 clips. Pulling up. The whole job took 1 hour, removed the old one, installed a new one, new hoses, a new heater valve. The new heater core has 5/8" fittings, use 5/8" hose. All you need is Gates high quality red heater hose, some Permatex sealant and CTB-22 constant tension clamps. Never run out again. It was just right. I mean EXACTLY appropriate. I measured the old copper/brass and compared it to the new aluminum. The old foam rubber fitted perfectly, did not deteriorate. Couldn't ask for a better fit. The size of the fin is remarkable. The new core has much smaller ribs and a much smaller hole between the ribs, and the surface area is many times greater than copper/brass. It was immediately visible as soon as I started it and turned on the heater. The temperature difference across the heater inlet/outlet hose was about 20 degrees while the old one was about 10 degrees, suggesting that the new core is dissipating more heat from the coolant returning to the engine. The same applies to aluminum radiators. Aluminum radiators are definitely more efficient than copper/brass radiators.
