I wanted a fairly thick cotton string because the friction of the cotton was preventing the strings from vibrating. I chose 3mm cotton. This is a #60 gauge. I used some of this cord and found a definite improvement over nylon. Then I noticed that it doesn't look like 3mm. With a caliper I measured it to just under 2mm, same as the nylon cord. This matches cotton #30. I weighed it and found 645 feet per pound. This is the approximate weight of #30. The weight of #60 is about 270 feet per pound. The material I received contains a lot less cotton and probably costs less than real 3mm cord. I can only wonder how much better my balance would work if they sent me a 3mm diameter cord as stated on the manufacturer's tag.
