Review on Coarse Grain Hawaiian Black Lava Sea Salt - 2 lb. Bag from San Francisco Salt Company by Kristy Campos

Not as expected in the bathroom

I wanted to buy black Hawaiian salt in bulk as it is my favorite condiment and dessert salt, but it is quite expensive; I hesitated before purchasing as the price seemed "too good to be true", but the product received a lot of positive feedback, so I gave it a try. I was very disappointed and in my opinion this is nothing short of a true Black Hawaiian. Salt - many of the salt crystals were clear, not black, with very little charcoal residue that fell onto your pocket and hands, which is typical of real salt. These crystals didn't strike me as being naturally black or have the inherent charcoal - rather they looked and tasted to me like they were standard cheaper sea salt that was ground up or stored with some charcoal to create it. . to pick up some of the color. The overall salt content of the product was very, very high and harsh - similar to the cheapest sea salt, not the much more subtle taste of my experience with real, high quality, black Hawaiian salt. I had to spit out both the food and the coffee I made, and I tested it with the same amount of Hawaiian black salt that I usually do with my favorite brand (albeit more expensive). If you are just looking for sea salt to cook with, or are unfamiliar with real Hawaiian black sea salt, then I can see someone might be excited to try this product or think it's a good buy, but if, like me, you are love Hawaiian black salt (my favorite way to garnish ice cream) and were hoping to find a decent compromise between product and price, you will most likely be disappointed.
