Water pools on top and leaks

Overall, I'm happy with this purchase. I've had it for over a year with no structural or functional defects. Some notes to potential buyers:1. This is a large umbrella, lower it if winds are more than 10 MPH.2. The string in the crank is not intended to support the weight of the umbrella. The manufacturer placed a hole at the top of the pole with a pin attached to a chain. Raise the umbrella above this hole and insert the pin. Then lower the umbrella until the pin is supporting the umbrella's weight, not the string.3. I have a 6' x 39" table. If it rains, the people at the long ends of the table remain dry. The people on the sides, not so much.4. The base is huge. It needs a large base because of its size, but it definitely interferes with people sitting. Nowhere to put their feet except on the base. It also interferes with the ability to push the chairs in when not in use.5. Rather than pour a bag of sand into the bags provided, I poured the sand into multiple 1-gallon zip lock bags and stuffed them in. Much easier.6. The umbrella collects water between the 3 "masts". It pools, and ultimately leaks pretty significantly. See attached photo. This is because there is no "roofline" support between the masts so the material sags.7. The only time I felt the need to take the top half of the umbrella off the base pole was during Hurricane Ian. It is that sturdy when lowered and tied using attached strings.

Pros
  • The patio umbrella adds value to any home or outdoor space
Cons
  • May be difficult to clean bird droppings or other debris off the fabric
