This is a great lens and costs a lot less than other similar lenses. Let's do the "not so good" first and get that out of the way. It's not the fastest lens and has been around for a while and could use an update. OK, in my experience that's negative. Now for the good. and"good" in this lens a lot. As mentioned it's more accessible, it uses ALL the focus points of the Sony a99, most of the photos taken are sharp and clear, the bokeh is very good, it's an amazing portrait lens (but don't get too close to the subject), it is light and unobtrusive on camera, and one of the main advantages for me is the ability to shoot in low light. Again, you won't be taking tight close-ups, but you (the photographer) can/should move around to get the shot you need and want. lens and it is not. As mentioned before, in many cases you have to move to frame your photo instead of using a lens.
