Review on Ultimate Protection for Home Electronics: Square D by Schneider Electric HEPD80 by Joseph Stone

Decent product - warranty claims and customer service stink!

The product seems decent enough but wait until you have to file a warranty claim with the company if an incident does occur. The manufacturer's warranty claims to cover $75,000 in damage or your homeowners insurance deductible if the device fails to protect your home and all connected devices (within 5 years of purchase). Pretty amazing value on the surface. However, the commitment and communication with Schneider customer service to fulfill this product warranty is ridiculously terrible. It has been 4 months since our incident and they are still "evaluating" our original unit to determine if payment for our claim is justified. Luckily I didn't have to rely on them to cover any losses or I'd still be sitting in the dark at my house. The next lightning strike did a lot of damage in late August and it took us about 60 days to get a live customer service representative. They claim that there is a phone system error. For real?! We even had to go to the company's Facebook page to get an answer, and then the tech support staff finally put us in touch with someone from the claims. Since then, the spokeswoman has released what she knows, which seems like little. They are still "testing" and "evaluating" to award funds for the claim. It seriously looks like they're just hoping we drop it and don't have to give us an answer. I will never buy a Schneider Electric product for my home again. Buyer Warning!

Pros
  • Identical protection of circuits and sockets throughout the house. Protects devices/devices not connected to surge protector
Cons
  • No power
