Review on Faber-Castel Pitt Pastel Pencils FC112112 - Assorted Colors (12-Pack) in Metal Tin by Barbara Simmons

Revainrating 3 out of 5

The wooden part of the pencil is half the price of the pastel pencil

I like the way the pastel pencil feels and works on paper. And they go well with my dry pastels. My only issue with them is the wooden part of the pens. They are too wide to fit in one of my manual pencil sharpeners. They fit in my electric pencil sharpener, but it's too strong for pastels and easily breaks and wastes them. In desperation, I tried to do my job and use the part of the manual sharpener designed for very thick pencils, but aside from being too big and uncomfortable, the wood was too strong to sharpen smoothly. I ended up doing my best by using the electric sharpener carefully, but I feel like I wasted half of each pencil just sharpening them. As a result, I never managed to get a really sharp point on them for what I needed them for - detail markings. Especially at their higher price point, I feel like a lot of money was wasted (in the garbage on sharpening) just for the choice/size of wood and not the pastel detailing itself. I would have thought that at this level of branding they would have missed that part incorporated into their design.

Pros
  • Pastel pencil
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly
