Review on ETC-JLD612-A Temperature Controller With Dual Display And PID Control By Lightobject by Jeff Rubio

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Pray that it isn't defect

I have ordered a few of these, but had problems with some of the units due to broken SSR-connections. Rating given due to the lack of quality control, combined with the poor customer service. The review of the customer service is on the store itself. The PID-units works OK (the auto-tuning is somewhat sketchy), but I've observed a high rate of defect units (broken SSR-signal). Given that the customer service can be a real pain in the butt to deal with, this basically leaves the unit useless, as the built-in relay is too weak for something like a sous vide. The menus are a mess, and don't always match up with the online manual (you don't get one with the product). The way the contacts are placed on the back can also give a bit awkward cable routing. If you don't know anything at all about electronics it might be okay if you are prepared to shell out for a new one if the first one is broken (and risk your house burning down because you are playing with electricity while knowing nothing), but I'd rather use something like a raspberry pi which gives more flexibility as well as "candy" like internet monitoring and programmability. The descriptions for how to use this is readily available on the internet.

Pros
  • PID controller for rapid and precise response to temperature changes
Cons
  • May require frequent firmware updates
