1998 ALTIMA PCV Valve

The PCV valve in the 1998 Altima GXE is not easy to find and the Hanes manuals don't even come close to getting it right. The PCV is well below the intake manifold and not only did I have to pull out the oil filter, I also had to pull out the oil filter bracket. Knock sensor (easy to see straight up). pcv sits in the canal wall on the right. There is a brass tube with a 4 or 5 inch rubber hose that connects the tube to the PCV. I ended up gutting the old PCV valve (because it broke in half at age 14) and resealed it with blue gasket material. I bought about 6 feet of good quality fuel line and put the OLD cored PCV back in its original place and left about 3 feet of new hose up the AC pipe and wrapped it with a zip tie, put the new PCV in there for easy future access, then routed the other half of the tubing back to the brass tube. All of this was stated when I had my exhaust removed (for replacement) for easier access to the starter, knock sensor, PCV and oil pressure sensor. This brass tube is what you see in front of the PCV, I'm pretty sure the tube is right next to the knock sensor. FYI, the price of a knock sensor ranges from $18.00 to $100.00, most stores will charge around $900.00 to replace it. it is worth doing it yourself.

Pros
  • Designed for harsh conditions under the hood
Cons
  • I don't really like it, it's ok
